Lobster Tail North Andover

I have seen a lot of positive posts about Lobster Tail in North Andover. They have a small lunch menu and the usual fried food offerings.

They are in the same plaza as Orso Trattoria and across the street from Joe Fish. Plenty of parking. Getting here from 495 is really convoluted. Suggest taking 125 instead.

They are a fish market and have seating inside. They have a couple offerings on the menu with crab cakes. I noticed that in the fish counter, they had house-made crabcakes and some other crab cakes that were cheaper. I had to ask what the deal was? House-made uses real crab and the others fake crab. The strange thing is that none of the dishes on the menu uses house-made crabcakes. They can cook them for you for a dollar extra.

The Lobster Roll with Fries and Slaw are $20 online and $23.99 in-store. Due to a snafu at the register, I got double fries instead of fries and slaw. Slaw was quickly added. It was a huge lobster roll with super fresh lobster that was just lightly coated with mayo. Claw and knuckle, but that's kind of expected. The hand-cut fries were fantastic! Not really as thick as steak fries, but close. Cooked absolutely perfectly, soft on the inside and just lightly crisped up on the outside. They were also lightly salted when taken out of the fryolator. The slaw was nicely diced and crunchy but completely lacked dressing. 09/03/21

I was soo impressed by the lobster roll that I ordered a Fresh Crab Roll to go and hold the fries since I took the leftover fries from the lobster roll to go. Look at that mound of supposedly fresh crab! This was delicious, but I have to admit that I added a smidgen of mayo before having it for dinner. However, I'm not convinced that this is real crab, especially for the price. The minuscule amount of crab in the crab cake below looked like real crab meat. This doesn't. 09/03/21

Clam Chowder ($3.99). The clam chowder was really luscious but needed lots of salt and pepper to come alive. Some of the clams were chewy. It wasn't exactly loaded either.

Crab Cake Sandwich with Fries and Tartar sauce ($7.99) with a real Crab Cake (+3.99) instead of the fake one. The fries were darker than the last time and weren't salted either. This shouldn't be called a crab cake but should have been called a cake with crab added. It was 95% filler with a few bits of crab added. Worst crab cake ever! 09/25/21

You can see a few bits of crab in the center of the picture. TERRIBLE.

Lunch Gulf Shrimp Plate with Fries and Tartar sauce ($9.49). Plenty of perfectly fried big shrimp. I had to look up if it should be shrimp or shrimps. The excellent fries were cooked perfectly today. Their tartar sauce is some of the best I have ever had. So many places serve mayo with a few bits added. Here it's loaded with good stuff with some mayo added😍. This is the best deal on a Shrimp Plate that I have seen. 10/30/21

I went back to them for the Lunch Fried Calamari plate and was met with a sign stating Takeout only until further notice. 01/15/22
