Our Place Peabody

OUR PLACE Kitchen & Bar in Peabody opened recently on Rte 1 and is very easy to get to. From 128 NB, take the Rte 1 SB exit, make a U-turn onto the NB side, and you are there. They are in the same plaza as a Holiday Inn, and there is a big sign outside next to the road. A bit nerve-racking getting back onto Rte 1, but the exit to 128S is next door.

They have a big parking lot. Turns out that the owners are the same as Nick and Andy's in Danvers. I had high hopes for this place and even more so after I found out about this. According to their website, Nick & Andy's will reopen in September.

There is a big bar area just to the left of the entrance. I was pleased to see that Indycar racing was on in the bar. I know it's voluntary, but none of the staff was wearing masks. In most places I have been to recently, the staff has all been masked. I have no issue with either, just an observation.

The dining area is surprisingly big, and they were packed on a Saturday at lunchtime. They seemed to be fully staffed, but they also have closed Nick and Andy's temporarily. Even when they were packed, the noise level was not bad, unlike the other location that gets really loud. When the hostess(es?) were idle, they walked around refilling coffee cups. I really liked my little corner booth. Never got seated there again, even when they weren't busy. There is a big open kitchen in the back.

"All Omelets are made with 4 Eggs and Served with Shredded Potatoes and Choice of Toast".
Here are the MEAT LOVERS (12). "Applewood Bacon, Ham, Sausage, and Cheese". For my toast, I picked the marble rye that was nicely toasted and properly buttered all the way to the edges. I must say that the bread was fantastic and unbelievable light. I wish the bread choices were listed on the menu so that the waitress didn't have to recite them. I ordered the omelet wet, and it was. An extra point for this. It was also loaded with meats. I really detest an overcooked omelet. Did you pay attention above? 4 eggs in the omelet. The shredded potatoes were fine, but I'm still of two minds about if I like them or not. Some bits are really crispy, and other bits verge on the uncooked. The silverware was of excellent quality. Do I have to say that there were leftovers? 06/12/21

TWO EGGS ANY STYLE with Homemade Corned Beef Hash (10). My over-easy eggs were actually browned on the underside, so another point for that. The corned beef hash was really enjoyable, even if it was a lot of shredded potatoes included. Well seasoned and barely browned. My light rye had morphed into marbled rye, but it was still tasty and actually tasted of rye. I liked the shredded potatoes better this time. There is an option for home fries as a side dish, but it's not listed on the menu. They just opened, so some kinks are expected. Unfortunately, the home fries are unpeeled. 07/01/21

MEATLOAF (14). "Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables Topped with BBQ Sauce". There was no trace of any BBQ sauce. When I asked if I could have the sauteed spinach instead of vegetables, the answer was No Problem, and I like that. The mashed is the real deal, and not a potato skin could be found. It was even seasoned. The gravy was excellent but disappeared quickly, and unfortunately, so had my waitress. I had to flag down another server to get extra gravy. The spinach was cooked well but was bland. The meatloaf was tasty and seasoned but was on the drier side. 07/04/21

The next time I saw my waitress, she just dropped off the check. She did come back, and I got my change but only the bills.

"All Grilled Sandwiches Served with French Fries or Cole Slaw and a Pickle Upon Request."
REUBEN (14). "Fresh Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese and Thousand Island Dressing on Marble Rye". I asked for home fries and extra dressing and got the home fries but no extra dressing. So that generated another trip for the waitress. The Reuben had been toasted nicely, and there was plenty of sauerkraut. Couldn't say the same for the corned beef. The corned beef was cut so thinly that I have no idea if it was round or brisket. The texture indicates that this was, in fact, round and not brisket. The dressing was excellent. The homefries were terrible, overcooked, and soggy. Even if the skin was thin, it was still slimy. Should have stuck with the french fries, but I wanted to try the homefries.

HASH STACK Skillet (13) (10.50 at Nick and Andy's). "Our Shredded Potatoes Topped with Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, Cheese, and Sausage Gravy". This should be subtitled Heart Attack on a Plate, but it's delicious! The eggs were scrambled nicely and not overcooked. Plenty of bacon and sausage and cheese in the shredded potatoes. The sausage gravy was good but lacked pepper. 08/17/21

A waitress should never ask if a customer wants their change. Just bring it.
