Monsoon Indian Bistro Acton

I noticed Monsoon Indian Bistro in Acton when driving to Mayuri Restaurant and since the food there was pretty good, I figured that it would be here as well. Super hot and humid day today but that's when you are supposed to eat spicy food, right?

Pretty nondescript building on the Great Road but plenty of parking. Who names a restaurant monsoon anyway? Not exactly a happy occurrence when one hits you.

Nice dining area and it got really busy a little bit later.

Bar and buffet area with the open kitchen in the back and as a result, the place smelled fantastic. Turns out that the waiter in the back recognized me from when he worked at Punjab in Arlington. Punjab was supposed to reopen this spring but are still closed. I wonder what happened?

Time to hit the buffet and this was interesting. Sambar soup in the middle that was really good. There was also dosas that were cut into pieces and was filled with a spicy potato mixture. The dosa was excellent and really tasty. I didn't try the Uttapam but it did look good.

Appetizer tray. I really like that they cut the Samosas in half. The Saag (spinach) in the back was also really tasty with an almost smokey flavor. I didn't really have any luck finding out what it was.

There was both plain and garlic naan on the buffet. The chickpeas in front were just OK, not very exciting.

In the back we have Kali Mirch Ka Tikka that was very tasty but the chicken was on the drier side. In front is the Fish Vindaloo. The fish was dry but both the potatoes and the vindaloo sauce itself was excellent. Really nice rendition of a vindaloo.

Chicken Tikka Masala in the back that I skipped. In front is the Chicken Chetinad that was super tasty but again the chicken was on the drier side. All the dishes that I tried was hot and really well spiced with the vindaloo almost being on the hot side. This was a really good buffer for $10.99, not the biggest but one of the tastiest.

  1. And in a former Pizza Hut! Love that you can still tell years later by the shape of the roof. I used to go to the Pizza Hut when I was a kid, but this sounds much tastier.
