Trackside Peabody

Trackside Bar & Grill in Peabody has been on my radar for a while, and there aren't too many Portuguese restaurants around.

They have dedicated parking behind the restaurant. This is the bar entrance, the dining room entrance is around the corner.

It's fairly small but impeccably clean. The bar is to the right and the kitchen is behind me.

Some very fresh bread and rolls arrive accompanied by some nice olives. No extra charge for the chipped plate or the almost frozen butter.

A must was their much talked about Grilled Octopus (Polvo Grelhado) ($12.95). This was excellent with a very tender octopus that had spent time on the grill. Not showing is the very tasty vinaigrette that put the bread to good use.

"All entrees come with your choice of two: roasted potatoes, Portuguese fries, boiled potatoes, mixed vegetables, rice, soup of the day, or a side salad". Forgot the name of the soup, but it was chicken based and it was tasty in a big bowl.

Alheira Frita ($10.95). "Fried Portuguese sausage with a fried egg". The Portuguese Fries are just thicker potato chips, but they were fried really well. The fried egg was as close to perfection that you can get for a fried egg. The sausage has a soft interior and was very mild. The service was interesting. After ordering the appetizer, nothing happened until the octopus arrived, and then she took the order for my entree. Actually, this makes sense and ensures that I get a chance to eat the appetizer before my entree arrives and the kitchen doesn't have to worry about firing the entree later. The service was friendly, and they got pretty busy both in the bar and dining room. I'll be back for the Carne Alentejana.
