Emerald Rose Billerica

The Emerald Rose in Billerica is located on the despicable Rte 3A that I really dislike. I really craved a Shepherd's Pie today and no restaurant where I previously had had a good one no longer served it. The menu prices on the pdf's are out of date.

Plenty of parking behind the restaurant and they also have a small patio. The dining room is very pleasant and impeccably clean. There is a bar on the other side of the wall that is even bigger than this.

Good cutlery, linen napkins and tablecloth and they serve lunch seven days a week. I decided to start with a cup of Brown Ale Chili ($4.95). "Slowly Cooked Ground Beef, Diced Tomato, Kidney Beans, Green Pepper, Onion & Smuttynose Brown Ale. Topped with Cheddar Cheese and Tri Colored Tortilla Chips". The chips were stale, but the chili was very good, not very spicy but tasty.

Lunch Shepherd’s Pie ($13.95). "Ground Angus Beef, Corn, Peas and Diced Carrots blended together in a Beef Gravy Topped with Golden Brown Mashed Potato". The mash was unseasoned and had the skins left in. It was piping hot and very tasty, especially after being seasoned. Service was pleasant. Is it still a Shepherd’s Pie when it has beef instead of lamb? It's really a Cottage Pie.
