China Sky Winchester

Chinese food two days in a row? Well, yesterday's restaurant and China Sky in Winchester are so far apart that they could be on different continents and in fact, they are. One serves Chinese food and the other serves American food and Sushi.

They are located in central Winchester and there is parking around the restaurant and also public parking a bit further up behind the restaurant.

To the right when you come in is the Sushi bar with counter seating.

The interior is elegant with linen tablecloths and good furniture. Plenty of nicely dressed staff was on hand to take care of the guests.

Lunch specials come with a choice of three kinds of soup, and this is my usual choice, Hot & Sour soup. Apart from having a satisfying amount of heat and being served piping hot it was a bit bland and lacked a depth of flavor. The mushrooms in the soup were fresh and of good quality.

Lunch specials start at $8.95 and top out at $10.95 for the shrimp dishes. This is the General Tso’s Chicken ($9.95) ordered with vegetable fried rice. I asked for it extra spicy and the waitress brought out the chili oil without prompting. The peppers were nice cooked and fresh and the sugar peas were properly cleaned. No idea about the broccoli since left all of them. The chicken was the proper dark meat and really good chunks with very little batter and was fried to a nice crisp without being overcooked. The sauce was nice without being the normal sickly sweet variant. A good amount of chili oil in the sauce and over the chicken generated a little bit of heat and actually made this a very pleasant dish. The default is knife and fork, but you get chopsticks if you ask. Unfortunately, you get paper napkins. This turned out to be a very nice lunch in a very nice restaurant and the service was excellent. What they do, they do very well and have also been in business for over ten years here.

You also have "fresh" flowers on the table but to their defense, this visit was on a Monday and they might not have had access to fresher flowers.
