Cha Yen Watertown

I had heard that Cha Yen Thai Cookery in Watertown had expanded next door, so it was time for a new visit.

Yes, they now have the space next door as well. There is only metered parking available, but it's only 50¢ per hour.

This is the new space, and they now have plenty of seating, well plenty compared to what they had before. The dining room got rather busy at lunch today.

I have had Sukothai before and really liked the dish and ordered it again with duck ($10.25). "Choice of egg noodles or rice noodles with soft-boiled egg, fish cake, fish ball, peanuts, green beans, bean sprouts, scallion and cilantro". I selected the egg noodles. The beansprouts were absent, and it was served with the spices unmixed. The egg noodles was a big lump on the bottom, but I managed to break them up. The duck was on the drier side today. The soft boiled egg yolk was only partially runny. The fishballs and cake were good and the green beans were great. However, the dish was a bit bland, and I remember it as being a lot more exciting in taste.

The menu is still on the wall, and I noticed that the excellent calamari in the Grill section was gone, but apart from that, the menu looked the same.
