Pikaichi Medford

Pikaichi in Medford took over the space that previously housed a Mexican restaurant that I visited once. Pikaichi got forced out of their Allston location due to rent increases.

I always thought the layout wasn't the best. The whole right side of the restaurant isn't used. There is on-street free parking. If you go, check the website for opening hours. They are a bit irregular at the moment.

The dining room is very small but bright and impeccably clean. Decorations? We don't need no stinking decorations.

The ramen took about 3 minutes to arrive. "We are sorry for the wait!". The menu is very small, a couple of vegetarian ramens, and six meat ramens. I picked the Jigoku Ramen (9.49). "Homemade Spicy Soy Sauce flavored Ramen made from chicken, pork & vegetable broth. Served with custom made noodles, topped with tender shredded pork, shrimp hot oil, chili strings and scallions". Why is this the only one with shredded pork? All the others have sliced pork. I also added a Seasoned Boiled Egg (+1.50). I was hoping for a softboiled egg, but that wasn't to be. The egg was not overcooked. The ramen was marked with two peppers on the menu, and it was SPICY. Not deadly spicy, but respectable spicy. The noodles were really good, the broth was excellent, and the pork was tasty and tender. They have a number of add-ons, three slices of pork are only $2. This was a very enjoyable meal.

I probably don't get out enough, but I have never seen chopsticks like these. They made it very easy to grab on to the slippery noodles. I know the tables are wiped down after each customer, but they were still a bit sticky.

There were two man-buns sitting opposite me. Is this still a thing?
