Jin's Sichuan House Waltham

Jin's Sichuan House in Waltham opened relatively recently in a small plaza off Rte 20 on the outskirts of Waltham. There is off street parking.

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading a terrible review on Y**p, but the place was really nice with a bright interior and everything was spotless. I was lucky by being early but as the place filled up, the kitchen was really really slow. One customer left and another had to take his food to go.

Sichuan Double Cooked Pork Belly ($7.50) from the lunch Sichuan menu was good, but there was a lot of veggies present. It was marked as spicy and it really was, so that was nice. After looking at my leftovers, there was also a lot of pork belly, it was just hiding underneath.

I decided to splurge and also ordered Mala Crispy Chicken ($7.75) from the lunch specials menu. It wasn't really mala at all, but it was nice chunks of tender dark meat with a thin coating that was deep fried and cooked perfectly. Tender and crispy pieces but they could have done with some more heat. The included Crab Rangoons was super light and crispy and actually tasted of crab. The service was very spotty, a neighboring table didn't get his soup, they forgot his app of chicken fingers, etc. This place has potential and I'll be back for more even if you don't get any soup with the lunch specials.
