Firefly's Marlborough

I wasn't going to go anywhere on this snowy Saturday, but then I looked at the radar map, and there was just one angry cloud hanging over Woburn spewing snow, so I decided to go to Firefly's in Marlborough anyway. Why trekking all the way out here? Well, a fellow blogger, Pig Trip, put in a lot of effort to find the Best BBQ Wings of 2015 and Firefly's wings clocked in as #2. Besides that, I like wings.

They are located on a hill with a lovely view of Rte 20. I actually knew the original owner who was a fellow pool player with a love of BBQ that he combined in this place. Much to my surprise, the pool room was still in operation with the original Gold Crown tables in place.

Like hot sauce? They have a nice collection for any taste.

Plenty of condiments and sauces are available. They are only open for lunch on Saturdays, and they also do a Southern Sunday Brunch Buffet for $17.95.

Nice and bright inside.

You get a bowl of pickled cucumbers to start you off. Unfortunately, they were way too sweet for me. I really like the oversized water glass but not sure why I got a big steak knife, this is a BBQ place, right?

First to arrive was the Firefly's Jumbo Wings ($10 for 5). "Our colossal wings smoked and basted with a honey cayenne hot sauce are not like others! Served with our Memphis Ranch dressing, hot dip and celery sticks." Excellent wings with a nice tang of smoke from the smoker. Really tasty and juicy with a nice crisp skin.

Next was the Crazy Roo's Wings ($8). "Chicken wings rubbed with a blend of spices, apple smoked and fried to a golden brown. Tossed in a sriracha, molasses and lime cilantro glaze." Really really excellent wings with a crispy outside and tender and juicy inside and a really good rub on the outside. The blue cheese dressing was a bit bland, but the wings were so good that I forgot about the dressing.

Closeup of one of the Jumbo Wings and they make the name full justice. Despite their size, they were still tender and juicy. I would hate to meet one of these chickens on a dark night. If you like wings, especially BBQ wings, this is a destination place.
