Umi in Waltham is convenient located just off Rte128 on the way to Home Depot, so I stopped by today for some lunch. The little plaza is incredibly busy and parking was tight.
The inside is small but very nice and they were also seriously busy at lunchtime, but they also seated three large parties.
Lunch specials come with the obligatory Miso Soup, that was actually tasty, and a salad. The salad had been seriously refrigerated and was more than cold. Not sure how long it has been there but the cucumber had started to dry out.
I picked the Sashimi Combo (served with rice) ($14.95). "3 pieces of Salmon, 3 pieces of Tuna, 3 pieces of White Tuna, and 3 pieces of soba (Mackerel)." That should actually be Saba and it's not legal to have something called white tuna on the menu since there is no such ting. Well, there is but it's not white but Escobar is but it's not tuna. The fish was just OK and the rice was on the al dente side and was served cold. Not at room temp but cold. The pickled ginger was good. I spied a nearby table that had ordered the Curry Chicken and it was served in a soup bowl with the rice on the side. The best part of that dish is normally when the curry soaks into the rice. It was also a bit irritating to see the manager clearing out dishes before the whole table was done. The place was also seriously LOUD when they were busy.
