The NexMex Thing Peabody

The NexMex Thing in Peabody does half-priced tacos on Tuesdays.

There is free on-street parking and also a metered lot around the corner. I must admit that I don't get the name. If it supposed to be The Next Mex Thing that would for me be The Next Mext Thing.

The inside was bright and clean with very nice furniture, including some high tops.

Hot Sauce anybody?

The half-priced tacos only applied to the Chicken and Pork ones, so I went ahead and ordered one of each of the four available. This is the Fish (Pescado) (3.00) "Cajun / seasoned". You have a choice of crispy corn tortilla or a soft corn tortilla, and I went with the soft. The fish was dry, and the cajun seasoning was absent. The pico de gallo was nice and fresh as was the salsa on top.

The other three tacos arrive with my side order of Pinto Beans (.99). The beans were piping hot but completely lacked seasoning but were cooked well. From the left, we have Pork (Al Pastor) (2.50) "Slowly cooked pork on a vertical rotisserie", then the Steak (Asado) (2.75) "Grilled seasoned steak", and finally Chicken (Pollo) (2.50) "Cajun / seasoned". The pork and the steak were the clear winners, both were tender and very tasty. The chicken was moist but again lacked the cajun seasoning. I would have been very happy with three of the Al Pastor ones. The do have a combo "3 Tacos (Combo De Tacos) (9.00). Your choice of protein with a side of rice & Pinto beans", and this sounds like a good deal.

This is what I got for a salt shaker to season my beans. You order at the counter and bus your own table but I really liked this place, and Peabody is just a hop skip and jump away from home.

  2. Perhaps the name has something to do with "Tex-Mex thing"? :)
