Cafe of India Maynard

For this week's Indian lunch, I decided to head out to Cafe of India in Maynard. They opened in December of last year.

They are located on the outskirts of Maynard. Metered on street parking. It would have been nice if the website mentioned that there is available parking in the back. Not too impressed by the outside.

However, the inside was spotless with high-quality furniture. It was also nice and bright.

The buffet ($9.99) in the back had all the standard offerings, including soup and chai. It's worth mentioning that everything on the buffet was fresh and hot (temperature wise).

Some rather anemic looking Garlic Naans arrived, but they were cooked nicely, and they didn't hold back on the garlic.

I started with Mulligatawny Soup that was tasty, but almost impossible to get in the bowl due to the plastic cover over the food. The onion rings were soggy but had a wonderfully tasty batter. I could have a plateful of these and be happy. You also get linen napkins. You get good cutlery, but the fork had a weird geometry, didn't feel right.

The first trip to the buffet yielded a very good Chicken Tandoori that even had a hint of smoke. The Potato and Mushrooms (sans mushrooms) was cooked perfectly and was seasoned nicely with a trace of heat. The Dal Makhni was another very good dish. The Chicken Curry was almost spicy and very tasty even if the chicken was on the dry side. The service was very good and the buffet got refilled quickly. The Indian buffets in the area have really stepped up their game in recent years. It used to be that the best thing on the buffet was the Tandoori Chicken and the rest was just bland food. Now everything is really nicely seasoned, and you also see more interesting dishes on the buffets.
